ALIMONY (Maintenance)

Get the money you deserve when you need it the most, contact Miller Family Law based in Denver, CO

Alimony, or Spousal Support, is money one party pays to the other to maintain the lifestyle to which that party was accustomed during the marriage.

Alimony is usually paid in monthly installments. In order to qualify for Alimony, the parties must be married for at least three (3) years. The general rule is that after a party qualifies for Alimony, the duration is set as the half-life of the marriage. For example, a ten (10) year marriage qualifies because it is more than three (3) years and has an Alimony duration of five (5) years.

As always, the court has the ability to deviate from the three year qualification requirement as well as the amount and duration requirements.
